Please describe the problem you’ve encountered in detail:

  • Description:
I have a MS Surface Pro 7. I downloaded the image for the Surface Pro 7 from the Fydeos site.

I installed the OS to the ssd. Everything seems to be working fine. Except the touchscreen only works intermittently. Touch will only register about 30-40% of the time. It’s really frustrating.

Touchscreen works in Windows and on Ubuntu (with surface kernel) without a problem.

Any thoughts on what I should do? Thanks

Hi

I’ve been using the surface as is
And I’ve noticed that if I use my thumb, it works most of the time.

I don’t know if that means that the issue is with registering smaller touches (like the tip of my index finger).

I don’t see any option where you can adjust or calibrate the touchscreen in the OS or the bios.

BTW, the touchscreen works perfectly in the BIOS as well.

Thanks

Please read the release note.

Thanks for the response. I guess I will be using my thumbs for now.

Hi, let me re-open the issue. I have just installed FydeOS to my Surface Pro 7 too. The more, I have purchased the “for You” version in order to get help with fixing the touch screen which is working just the way it is described in the opening post. Non-speaking about strange behavior of the community account, I will provide very interesting thing I noticed.

The touch screen on Surface Pro 7 works pretty well once booted from installation USB drive. After installing, it doesnt respond or is very fuzzy
not able to use at all.

So, I cannot agree that this is the issue of the driver because it works well without installing and the issue appears right after installation. Could you please look into this? Many thanks!

I am willing to provide you all device information required.

Restart the system, it works for everyone using surface pro 7. I did not see anyone here reporting touchscreen is not working after installing into ssd, but the performance is not good since the linux-surface driver is not good.

This user is not using v18.1, we have improved the touch screen driver in v18, and no other users have reported the same problem in v18. The touch screen in v18 responds properly most of the time, except for poor sensitivity at the edge of the screen.

You can send feedback in the system and we can look at the system logs, but these kinds of issues that are not universally reproducible are hard to fix. We always recommend subscribing after you’ve tried it and are happy with it; subscribing doesn’t fix the problem for you, it’s so you can continue to use FydeOS for You without limitation.

Hi, during using the laptop for a while, I observed how it really works

When connected the keyboard or at least the mouse during booting, touchscreen is not working. Once disconected during system run, touchscreen doesn’t start working by this action. BUT once Surface is WITHOUT keyboard and/or connected mouse and it is switched on or awakened from sleep mode, the touch screen driver is loaded and it is working now. No matter if you connect and disconnect the keyboard afterwards, once the driver is loaded, it works like a sharm since then on
unless another reboot with connected keyboard
