How to Enable Open GApps in FydeOS v18 and Later Versions?

Starting with FydeOS v18, significant changes have been made to the way we distribute the FydeOS image. The ‘Developer Mode’, which was previously enabled by default, will no longer be activated automatically. Additionally, certain features that were conveniently enabled for developer debugging will now be turned off by default, including the installation of Open GApps. If you wish to enable Open GApps in FydeOS v18 or later, you will need to switch to Developer Mode and disable root filesystem verification.

Installation Guide

Step 1: Switching to Developer Mode
Step 2: Disabling Root Filesystem Verification
Step 3: In the ‘FydeOS App Store’, install and run the Open GApps Installer.

Without developer mode you cant use shell. If developer mode cant be enabled find ways to fix it. Like… dont guest mode it… maybe reflash the image again and try again.

To become certified with access to the play store you have to:
1 - Install a device ID apk to get this Device ID and register it on your google account.
2 - Register it here: https://www.google.com/android/uncertified/
3 - Give it a day till google approval happens. (Hours minutes or maybe 1 day not in our control).
4 - Reboot and on Android Settings try to add your google account - that should be it done for the play store to work and remember… reboot.

And also this can be done too :point_up_2: however its better to yet the first post done which is the correct way.

After developer mode enabled do crosh (Open browser type ctrl alt t)

/usr/sbin/crossystem_mode-switch.sh disable-rootfs-verification

Is there a VMWare image that supports GApps, installing APKs and the Google Play Store?

Linux Development Environment mode is also disabled, so that further limits what can be done to get a Device ID for Google Services Registration.

Nope.

i searched the web when i ran into playstore issue. i am glad fydeos is using opengapps. ive always preferred open gaps package. saw this post after i got my play store to work with below method.

AUTHENTICATE WITH GOOGLE CERT

I’m using a FydeTab Duo from the Indiegogo campain and it is working fine so far. I’m still finding my way around FydeOS but I start enjoying it.

There is an annoying glitch with the Android subsystem and OTA updates of FydeOS: After each operating system update, Open GApps is no longer active and requests a reinstall. Google apps, such as the Play Store, keep complainig that Google services are missing, clogging the message area.

I can fix all this by reinstalling Open GApps and signing into my Google account again, but it is very annoying and should be automated by the FydeOS update process. I hope my request is feasable. Thanks in advance!
