Please describe the problem you’ve encountered in detail:
Four problems:

  1. downloaded fydeOS 18.1 and checked the SHA256. All OK. I used
balenaEtcher-1.19.21 to create the bootable USB. Did not work. Got and error. created the USB with RUFUS and would not boot. Install instruction said to use balenaEtcher 1.18.11 or RUFUS. I downgraded to Etcher 1.18.11 and fydeOS 18.1 USB was created and booted.
  2. The keyboard was not recognized during the install process. I had to use the on screen keyboard. Could not find a way to enable it. Keyboard works with ChromeOS Flex.
  3. The internal speaker did not work. Did not work with ChromeOS Flex either. Did work with Linux Mint XFCE.
  4. Microphone did not work on Google website. Got not connected to internet message.

  • Acer Chromebook R11 C738T2002

    • Intel Celeron N3060
    • Intel HD Graphics 400
    • 4 GB 32 GB Flash drive
    • FydeOS Version 18.1 3-7 GEN
  • Relevant System Logs:

    • Did not collect logs. No keyboard. Screen keyboard a pain.

Here’s what did work. Camera, Sound via Bluetooth speaker, Mouse, Touchscreen.
Here’s what did not work. Keyboard, Microphone, internal speakers.

Since there was no keyboard support, I reinstalled Chrome OS Flex. Will try again later.
Unless you have a fix for the keyboard, mic and speakers.
Everything works on ChromeOS Flex except the speakers (I use a Bluetooth speaker with Flex).

Hi, Bob (and everyone)!

I’m considering FydeOS for my Acer Chromebook R11 (CB5-132T). Did you get it working in the end? Or would you suggest an alternative?

Thanks!

As you read above. Keyboard and Sound (speaker and mic) did not work. I currently have ChromeOS Flex (ver 140) on my Acer R11. It’s free gets regular updates. Linux works on it. No Google Apps. Internal sound does not work, but bluetooth sound does. I bought some TOZO earbuds on Amazon for $20. They work great (speaker and mic).

Thanks for the reply, Bob!

I tried a few live images and ended up installing Lubuntu. I wish I had changed sooner! So far, performance is great (surprisingly, even better than with ChromeOS!) and almost everything works fine, but I had to come up with a few workarounds (e.g., using keyd and changing default shortcuts to make entire keyboard work as in ChromeOS), and could not test the touchscreen (mine wasn’t working due to a hardware issue). I noticed a few issues with the audio, but I’m still investigating.
