Installing FydeOS on a 11th Gen Intel Chromebook (Lenovo Flex 3)

I have a question about installing FydeOS on a Lenovo Flex 3 Chromebook. The device runs up-to-date ChromeOS.

I know you can install Linux on stock ChromeOS firmware, FyraLabs does this. But I would love to try FydeOS, as I think the concept of ChromeOS is great, I just want way more privacy.

I got an ISO matching my hardware, but for laptops. Do I need to coreboot it, using MrChromebox firmware? Or can I just disable verified boot and install it like that?

:computer:System & Device Information

  • Hardware & System Configuration: Lenovo Flex 3, “botenflex”
    • Processor: Pentium Silver N6000
    • Graphics Card: probably integrated
    • RAM: 8GB
    • FydeOS Version: none

I came to the conclusion that

  1. the stock firmware probably only allows verified boot for ChromeOS. So using Coreboot will have more potential
  2. FydeOS is made for regular PCs, so input devices may be broken on stock firmware

I will flash upstream coreboot thanks to MrChromebox and will install the regular modern Intel ISO.
