I ordered like a total of a 10$-20$ of different usb wifis from N to AX (B/G AC and AX) AC1200 AX900…
Because… linux kernels and firmwares will forever be this junk that even on our century mainlines still dont recognize them usbs spot on and requires you to be an google mankey to get it all installed which will require u to repeat again if u end up bricking the system at some point.
*I would like to suggest fydeOS to maybe add a supported one to their sales on the marketing page maybe it could help everyone once and for all. @alpha@Archie2
RTL8811 - Works - AC600
RTL8188GU - no clue
RTL8723DU - no clue - wifi 4
RTL8821 - no clue
AIC8800 - no clue
8188 ETV - Wifi N ( slow and low range ) - works.
AX300 / AX600 / AX900 - Best ones to be wifi 6E - dont work yet.
Theres no point in being greedy if theres no linux firmware available for it. Meaning that it can always be an hit and miss so grab a few… the cheapest ones.
Well if ure expecting fyde to fix hundreds of laptops wifi modules while you cant do it yourself then spend a tenner and move on. Any issues ? Use flex and enjoy no Android support and complain at google the father of all.
Well, partially right with Your answer… actually I’ve tried to use my wifi dongle (a brostrend AC1L) which works almost with any Linux flavor but not with FydeOS. It is fully debian compatible (thus ubuntu, etc) and I tried to install it through the linux interface: no success at all, even if recognised as a generic 802.1 device. I contacted also the brostrend support team providing all the install info and they confirmed that the kernel level should be fine but anyway proprietary, as header files too. So, nothing can be done, even investigations. If You look at the FydeOS https://fydeos.io/help/manual/connect-your-fydeos-device/connect-to-other-devices/fix-connection-problems/ it is stated to check with the open community…
Again buy one that is compatible easy. If you dont wanna spend 1$ or 3$ for one usb with wifi and bt. Then the only remaining thing you can do… is expect fydeos developers to install it in their firmware. But I wouldnt be expecting that to happen.
Well, I wanted to help (this is the reason why I tried to involve the producers of the dongle) as I think that FydeOS should have a good chance as it has all the possibilities to grow! If it keeps ‘limited’ hw support, just few people would move to adopt and support it: for example, even if I am used to linux, I think that this implementation of chromne os+linux+android is much more lighter and better, and I would like to pay for it (I usually try to contribute for developments).
Anyway, it is neither the right solution nor worth just saying “throw in a bucket some cash, so that You can ‘maybe’ find a dongle” that it is working properly.
At least, they should provide a list of working usb keys that are compatible
By the way, can You suggest a reliable (cheap) wifi dongle? I’ve read that the ac600 - rtl8811 should work, but it is incredible which are the different prices I could find on amz, from 5 to 40 euros!!!
do You have a specific brand? Would be the TP-Link Archer T2UB Nano ok? Or anyway, any that is cheap enough and on amz so that I can get it quite fast (I’m from italy)
