On the Fydetab Duo with the FydeOS v19.0-SP1 (fully harwdare firmware updated) there seem to have been introduced some video decoding color banding artifacts which I haven’t noticed before - this is very noticeable on the Rammstein - Deutschland (Official Video) youtube video (in example) - but not on all videos.
Hi Joao, I just tested the YouTube video you sent and found out that there are no decoding color artifacts that you mentioned. However, we did notice that the video playback is very slow and is getting stuck. I think it’s an AV1 decoding issue, and we’ll look into this. In the meantime, you can install the extension h264ify to see if this problem can be solved.
Hi @Archie2!
What do you mean there aren’t any decoding color artifacts? Are you using a default FydeOS v19.0-SP1 setup on the Fydetab Duo? Or is that with the suggested extension h264ify?
Here is an example screenshoot at second 53. Please notice the huge green bar below as well as the offset on the colours positioning. In example check the word Deutschland and notice the “shadow” below each letter. Everything becomes a little bit blurry due to that positioning offset. This is very noticeable throughout the video, not only here:
For reference, on Google Chrome on an Intel x86 laptop I get the correct picture and color decoding/positioning. No green bars, no colour positioning offset.
By the way I tried the extension h264ify and it resolves the issue by streaming the video on H.264 codec instead of the default VP8/VP9. So probably a codec driver issue?
Yes, it’s the AV1 decoding issue. It happens when we upgraded to the 6.1 kernel, and we’re still looking for a solution to this.
