:pie: FydeOS v19.0-SP1 Preview for Raspberry Pi 5/500 is out now!

Hey everyone! The new FydeOS v19.0-SP1 Preview is ready for testing! If you’re up for it, give it a spin and let us know what you think. :space_invader:

What’s changed:

  • Kernel’s been bumped to 6.6 — fresh and ready to roll.
  • Now supports the Raspberry Pi 500 — more Pi love.
  • Graphics performance got a nice upgrade with Vulkan replacing EGL — expect smoother visuals! :video_game:
  • A quick heads up: mouse input in the Android subsystem can be a bit jittery. We’re aware of it, and it’ll be fixed in the stable version. :bug:

Give it a try and drop us your thoughts, feedback is always welcome! Let’s make this even better together.

Confused here.

I can get this version to boot, but I cant get the one to boot from the main download page (FydeOS_for_SBC_Pi5_v19.0-io). This version is called “preview”, but yet the date of your post is newer than the version from the download page.

Was hoping to get an updated version (soonish) due to the issue of it not loading, and assumed this version was an older one, but I just now noticed the date of the post and am wondering if this IS the newer one?

Hi, thanks for this release! This version boots up nicely on the RPi5.

There are a few minor issues I’ve noticed:

  • The screen occasionally goes black for a second (especially when watching YouTube and trying to multitask, like browsing).
  • The Android subsystem is lagging.
  • Slowdowns are visible, particularly after startup and when multiple tasks are running.
  • I’m not sure if it’s a refresh rate or screen problem, but the little windows in the taskbar (like the app drawer, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi) have a slight, fast flicker when they open. It’s not super obvious, but you can see it.

I understand there’s likely a lot of work ahead, but for the first couple of hours of use, it’s really okay. I’ll keep you updated if I encounter any other difficulties.
