Just installed Firefox on my FydeOS Chromebook - Any way to hide/unpin the preinstalled browser?

:pushpin:Question Description

  1. I’ve seen another question asking, but no real answer.

  2. I’ve finished installing FydeOS, and using FlatPak, I have installed Firefox; I’d like to replace it as my main browser, but for some reason, I’m not allowed to unpin the browser app.

:computer:System & Device Information

  • Hardware & System Configuration: HP Chromebook 14, CAREENA Board
    • Processor: AMD Dual-Core A4-1920 APU (2.2/2.5GHz freq)
    • Graphics Card(Please specify if there’s a discrete graphics card): AMD Radeon R3 Graphics
    • RAM: 4GB DDR4-1866 SDRAM (onboard)
    • FydeOS Version: v20.0

sorry, you can’t hide it at the moment

A bit of context:

  • The Chromium (now named “Browser”) is not only just a browser, it’s an integral part of the OS and it’s responsible for rendering lots of UI/UX aspects on the desktop environment. Therefore the “Browser” is not an app. It’s the OS.
  • Technically the browser icon should be able to unpin from the launcher dock, but upstream code doesn’t allow this. We thought this somewhat makes sense, so didn’t change this behaviour.
  • If it’s privacy that concerns you, note that the “Browser” is of Chromium, not Chrome. Most proprietary stuff and API calls to Google’s home has been stripped out.
  • The Firefox browser you install lives inside the Linux VM. It works, but performance-wise is non-comparable to the native Browser, I mean the OS itself.

Lastly, my (biased) opinion on Firefox somewhat aligns with this dude: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmjUlFIaNLE
