I have been using Fyde for a little bit. It works nicely for digital signage. I work for a school district and we display menus for our concession stand. It works great. It’s quicker than lots of Linux distros, but my one issue is remote control. Typically the menu changes every week with a new Google slideshow, so I remote in launch the browser and paste in the link to the latest slideshow. With Linux I can use RustDesk or HopToDesk. But I haven’t found anything close to the speed and performance of Fyde. Using Linux, I can get both RustDesk and HopToDesk to install on Fyde, but when I open them the windows flicker, so it’s hard to use and I get notices to disable Wayland. In Linux, this is an easy uncomment in a conf file…but in Fyde, I can’t figure out how to do it. I’m running Fyde slim.
Has anyone seen something similar or know how to fix these issues? I’m trying to remote control from my work laptop (Mac) and my home laptop (Mac), same machine, different Internet connections. It won’t always be on the same network.
Thanks for sharing your experience and use case — it’s great to hear FydeOS is working well for your school district’s concession stand menus!
For what you’re doing — displaying a Google slideshow that updates weekly — I’d strongly recommend using the Kiosk mode available in the FydeOS Enterprise Solution.
Why Kiosk mode is ideal for digital signage:
Automatic launch: Set a URL (your Google Slides link) to launch automatically on boot, no manual login or pasting links needed
Lockdown environment: Prevents users from exiting the slideshow or changing settings accidentally
Remote updates: Change the Google Slides content remotely — no need to remote-control the device each time
Automatic refresh: After reboot, devices always start fresh and load the latest content
Optional remote access: If needed, you can even initiate RDP sessions directly from FydeOS Management Cloud without requiring consent on the device
