No Sound on Lenovo 500e (N3450) – No Audio Card Detected on Kernel 6.6 (FydeOS Slim v21)

Have you searched the community for related issues?

  • Yes — no working solution found.

Please describe the problem you’ve encountered in detail:

  • I am using FydeOS for PC (Slim) on a Lenovo 500e Chromebook (Intel Apollo Lake).
  • The system cannot detect any audio devices. The sound menu is empty (no Internal Speakers, no HDMI output).
  • Android subsystem also has no audio.
  • aplay -l, arecord -l, and /proc/asound/cards all return no soundcards found.
  • modprobe for SOF, SST, and ASoC drivers fails because the Slim kernel does not include the required Chromebook audio drivers.
  • Legacy builds for older Intel platforms appear to have these drivers, but Slim kernel 6.6.76 does not.

It’s common for Chromebooks to experience audio issues when running FydeOS, so it’s recommended to keep using ChromeOS instead.
