Comparing Chrome OS and Fydeos

It compares Chrome OS and its compatibility and it says that it’s broadly compatible. trying to install it now on my lenovo yoga 11e chromebook because it’s no longer secure, I am shocked that the keyboard won’t work. and it does preventing me from logging in through google, local account, even fydeos account. I hope it has guest mode where users don’t need to set up an account. I’m really having a hard time installing this.

so it’s a bluff with its comparation with Chrome OS regarding compatibility then?

luckily I managed to install archlinux i3.

FydeOS having better compatibility than ChromeOS does not mean that every device supported by ChromeOS will also be supported by FydeOS. ChromeOS, by design, only supports Chromebooks, whereas FydeOS clearly supports a much wider range of devices.

contradiction?

fydeos can’t support supported by chromeos but clearly supports much wider range of device.

can I install it on mac device?

ChromeOS officially supports only specific Chromebook models chosen by Google. FydeOS, on the other hand, is designed to run on a much broader category of hardware (PCs, some tablets, SBCs, and certain Macs).

That said, broader does not mean every ChromeOS-supported device. Hardware support depends on firmware, drivers, and architecture, so overlap is partial, not complete.

About Macs:

  • Intel-based Macs: some models can run FydeOS, usually with limitations (Wi-Fi, trackpad, camera, etc. may vary by model).
  • Apple Silicon (M1-M5) Macs: not supported for native installation due to Apple’s closed boot and driver stack.
