Philips TV monitor not able to be recognize

I’m using 32" Philips TV model# 32HF7544D/27 as a secondary monitor. In the settings, its displayed as unknown display. It’s working but the its blurry and proportions are “not right”.

Ubuntu can detect the device and have a clear display. If you need anything to help solve this solution, don’t hesitate to contact me.

Hi, thanks for reporting this.

This is a known issue on ChromiumOS when the external display’s EDID cannot be read or parsed correctly, so it shows up as “Unknown display” with incorrect scaling.

We suggest trying the following first:

  • Set the HDMI input on the Philips TV to PC mode (to disable overscan).

  • Try a different HDMI cable or HDMI port, and avoid adapters if possible.

  • Manually select the TV’s native resolution in display settings.

Since it works correctly on Ubuntu, this is very likely an EDID compatibility issue. If the problem persists, EDID logs or the exported EDID from Ubuntu would be very helpful for further investigation.
