Background
Thanks to the progress made by the Linux Surface project, FydeOS for You - Surface now supports more hardware features on some models in the series. In the v16.0-SP1 update, we have enabled the functionality to access front and rear cameras for some supported Surface hardware.
Enabling this feature requires an updated kernel as the foundation, at the cost of using experimental touchscreen drivers; thus, touch interaction performance may decrease, leading to a weakened touch interaction experience.
Therefore, we are releasing the FydeOS for You with the camera feature enabled in the āDeveloper versionā channel. The following content will provide a detailed introduction to this āDeveloper versionā release.
Supported models
- Surface Pro 4
- Surface Pro 5
- Surface Pro 6
If your Surface is not on the above list, the content of this article does not apply. The above list will be updated regularly, so please stay tuned.
How to use
If your device is on the āSupported modelsā list and you want to try this experimental feature, there are two ways to do it:
- Download the corresponding image from this post and flash it for installation.
- If your Surface device is already installed with a distribution image downloaded from fydeos.io/download, you can switch the system release version manually to enable automatic updating to the developer version image via OTA mode. For detailed operation, please refer to this KB document.
