Recently, we’ve received reports from users experiencing issues where Surface devices display a “password incorrect” error when attempting to connect to Wi-Fi. After investigation, our technical team has identified that the issue is related to the Wi-Fi encryption method. We are actively working on a permanent fix.
Temporary Workaround
If you’re encountering Wi-Fi connection difficulties on your Surface device, please follow these steps:
Log in to your router’s management interface.
Locate the wireless security settings option.
Change the encryption method from WPA2 or WPA3 to WPA/WPA2 mixed mode.
Save the changes and try reconnecting your Surface device.
We appreciate your patience as we work to resolve this issue.
This sadly didn’t work for me.
Is there a way to release the download link of an older version that still works?
Btw, the same bug exists in Chrome OS Flex for a long time with no reaction from Google. Very glad that you are working on fixing this. Trying together to keep older devices out of the landfill.
Today i installed Fyde OS on my Surface Pro 1. WiFi didn’t work. After digging around a little bit I found out that mrvl firmware binaries are missing, in particular the mrvl/usb8797_uapsta.bin. I put it to the device’s firmware directory, after a reboot wifi works, now.
Please help for the case of Surface pro 5. There are some wifi I can connect, some can’t. If would be much better if I can receive a method to work around or have an older version that wifi works, thanks.
Mind sharing what steps you took to make this work? I have a Surface Pro 1, and have not been able to get wifi working on it on Fyde 18 or 19. I copied the 8797 binaries over as well, but that didn’t help.
I’d like to do this too, but where did you get the mrvl firmware binaries to copy into that folder? I have a Surface Pro 3 with the same issue - and if the wifi binaries are the same from the Surface Pro 1 to the Surface Pro 3, I would guess this would work for me as well*.
(*However - if you know the Surface Pro 3 has a different wifi card and needs different binaries than the Surface Pro 1, please let me know…maybe we can give a bunch of the FydeOS & MS Surface community a good fix in the meantime until the official Fyde team releases a fix…)
I would point out that this didn’t work for me with the latest FydeOS v19 and a Surface Pro 3. The only way I could connect to my router was to turn off encryption completely and connect to an open (no password) wifi…
The Marvell binaries are not a fix for this issue. The issue with Surface 1 (& probably 2 as well) is different. For Fyde 18 & 19, the Wifi chipset on these devices is not even recognized by Fyde. That was because of these missing binaries. Once the binaries are added, the Wifi chipset is recognized. However, the encryption issue still remains. I can’t connect to my home router unless I make it an open network. I can connect to my hotspot just fine though - even with WPA2.
FWIW, this issue exists even on Chrome OS Flex. Hopefully the fix coming next week as mentioned above will work for this issue.
I have an old Surface Pro 1, which doesn’t have a dedicated “For You” release. The PC release works perfectly fine on it (once I added the WiFi firmware binaries), except for this WiFi WPA issue.
The Surface Pro 3 release boots up fine as well, but WiFi is not recognized even though the firmware files are present.
