Raspberry pi 5 fyde OS not working?

Have you searched the community for related issues?

  • Yes, a lot in web and here i did not found something similar

First of all, sorry for my english, i’m not a native speaker so is kinda butchered here.

So, for some reason the fyde OS version for the raspberry pi 5 doesn’t work for me, i tried with both raspberry pi imager, balena and even with Linux directly(WSL), it loads something but when i put the sd card on the raspberry it tries to boot something and displays a black screen and then stops and tries again, but never actually boots.

I have been trying to look for evidence that the 19 version of fyde OS work but i did not find anyone who has used it, i just found for the 18.1 in a lot of youtube videos, i don’t know if works for someone here.

Please describe the problem you’ve encountered in detail:

  • Description:
I followed the instructions to download it from the page, i downloaded the image and baked it on the sd with the balena software, it kinda work although at the end it showed a error message that said that the connections was interrupted, and that i check for corruption in the compiled file which is odd, so i put the sd on the board and it did not work, it just got stuck in a loop trying to boot.

I tried the raspberry imager and with the console and it did not show anything but still gets stuck, i checked the sd card and change it, is using FAT32 as is usual for chrome os and really i don’t have what else to try, it may need a different type of sd or something??

What screen did you use? I guess fydeos does not support your screen. Just a guess, lots of people use raspberry pi 5 here and they can boot up.

I did not know it could be a problem, I am using a tv screen because I do not have anything else

Something I forgot to say is that in videos the OS in the memory is usually divided in lots of partitions, but mine only has three partitions, I do not know if it is normal or not

Or maybe anyone can help me get an older version??, maybe the 18.1, just to try it out

I guess the screen is the problem. You should try another screen.

I have the same problem. I have various new Raspi 5 (2gb) and have used multiple micro SD cards of distinct brands and each time FydeOS fails to boot. Within a few seconds the Raspi just reboots in a loop. Burning of the SDs was done with Etcher following the docs.

I use a ssd and it works. Don’t use sd card.

same problem, Pi5 8gb, SD Card, SSD nvme, no matter where I create the image, the version available for download on the Site never boots. And other systems boot and work… but no luck with FydeOS at the moment

8G version is different with the 4G version, so fydeos does not support it now.

Hi Dan, had the exact same problem. Until I realised I was using a version not made for RPi 5. Have you tried this?

It works for me but seems to freeze regularly on a 8 GB Pi. So not really usable :frowning:

Having the same issue with my pi5 16gig. The version that is downloadable from the fydeos download page just gets stuck in a boot loop. I have tried multiple SD cards, multiple monitors, the only thing I have gotten to work is the preview version, which seems to have other issues. Would be great to have a solution to this.

So there’s no usable version for the pi5. Not promising for a device that came out in 2023

The preview version seems to be working decently. My initial install it was randomly restarting, and for some reason everytime it did you had to re-log into your google acount, like the first time you do it when you set it up and it was a pain. I reinstalled it, and this time it seems to be working correctly. Only issue is the screen never goes off like it should, but at least I dont have to log in and do the secondary authintication everytime like before.
